Overview

At NAU the capstone class is a chance for senior engineering students to get real world experience engineering a “thing”. Some of the capstone groups design projects that are a part of competitions sponsored by major corporations or organizations. This team is part of a “supermileage” competition in which we design and build a small vehicle that can reach a certain speed and get the highest possible fuel economy while driving around a closed course. The basis behind the competition is to get young engineers thinking about ways that fuel economy for vehicles in the overall vehicle market can be improved. The team will be going to Houston in April to compete in a competition to attempt to record the highest fuel mileage of any car in the competition.
