Assistive Art Workstation

Project Description

The primary goal of this senior capstone project is to successfully design, build, and implement an assistive art workstation to be used in the art program at the Hozhoni Foundation, located in Flagstaff, Arizona. The Hozhoni Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides residential, vocational, and educational services to people with developmental disabilities. One of the most important components of the Hozhoni Foundation is its art program, which features a large studio where clients work with several different types of art media, and a gallery where clients' work is displayed for public viewing. There are numerous theraputic benefits to creating art, and the Hozhoni Art program provides its clients with a valuable outlet for self-expression and creativity. The final product of this capstone design project will be an adjustable art workstation able to support various sizes and types of canvases or other media. Hozhoni clients will be able to comfortably use the device whether seated or standing.

Customer Requirements

Based on the conversations with the Hozhoni Foundation, the team came outlined ten customer requirements that will be used to assess the feasibility of the design. Each of these requirements was weighted with a point value out of 250 total points. The weight represents the importance of each requirement relative to each other, with a higher number of points correlating to a higher importance to the overall project goal.

Engineering Requirements

Using the customer requirements, the team outlined with sixteen engineering requirements that further define the team’s future system. The engineering requirements provide physical, measureable parameters that ensure the design meets client needs. These requirements were defined by a target value and an acceptable tolerance range when applicable.
