The Cosnino Road improvement and realignment project, which is part of the Coconino County roadway renovation plan, is located in Coconino County, east of Flagstaff, AZ. The Cosnino Road project begins at the BNSF Railroad at grade crossing and extends to the intersection of Townsend-Winona Road and Cosnino Road. The project length is approximately 1.85 miles. Cosnino Road is currently an improved and paved former Forest Service access road that is under Coconino County’s jurisdiction. Due to the steep grade located north of the BNSF railroad tracks and the increased traffic caused by the development of the surrounding area, the Coconino County Public Works Department has decided to improve and redesign the existing road. The new design requirements include widening the roadway from 11 foot to 12 foot lanes, adding four foot bike lanes to both sides of the roadway, and decreasing the roadway grade on the south side of the project. Coconino County has allotted a 2 million dollar budget for the construction of Cosnino Road. Roadrunner Engineering (RE) has designed a new horizontal and vertical alignment that satisfies all of Coconino County’s requirements using AutoCAD Civil3D software. RE has also completed a cost estimate for the construction of Cosnino Road.
