Late Work and Make-ups: Policies

Quizzes: No make-ups, no late work accepted.

Exams: Make-ups only when scheduled/approved in advance or with proper documentation (note from physician, etc.)

Written Homeworks: No late work accepted, no make-ups.

Programming Assignments: Late work accepted with penalties. Specifically:

For due dates/times before noon For due dates/time after noon
  • By 5pm on due date: 10% off
  • By midnight on due date: 15% off
  • Within 24 hours of due date: 20% off
  • Later than noon next day: no credit
  • By midnight on due date: 10% off
  • By by 8am next morning: 15% off
  • Within 24 hours of due date: 20% off
  • Later than 5pm next day: no credit

Scoring Penalties: The way it works is as you'd expect: I grade the late assignment normally, determine it's score...and subtract off the penalty percentage from that total.

Process: To submit late work, you should email me the assignment; make sure the subject line clear states the assignment and that it's a late work submission. The timestamp of the email in my inbox will determine the official submission time for penalty calculation purposes, and this is the version that will be graded.

Note that, if hardcopy submission was originally required, you will still need to submit the specified hardcopy packet at my office by start of the next business. The emailed version just stops the clock, and established the official version to be graded (and of course it would be academic dishonesty to later submit a further-developed hardcopy).

Again, this whole process is almost never worth it and is best to avoid by turning things in on time!
