NAU Wireless

New networking equipment has been placed in buildings 17, 19, 20, 21, and (soon) 88. This has enabled ITS to upgrade or install wireless in the above buildings.

There are still some implementation issues to be ironed out though. However wireless is now available in 17, 19, 20 and 21.

Please note that due to usability issues that the following instructions may well change!

There are some differences to the connection mechanism now from that which previously occurred. Note that these instructions are just for the above buildings:

There are no longer NAU or GUEST connections.

The new connection SSID will look like for example: NAU-B17-b or NAU-B17-g (NAU-building#-b/g). The b or g stands for the type of wireless card you have in your laptop/computer. Most modern laptops have G band which is the fastest and gives a better range.

There is however a new step. After the wireless connects - DO NOT START the VPN you must open a browser and complete “an acceptance page”. At this point everyone has a connection that provides basic internet browsing capabilities.

If you need email, or file system access (connecting to shares) you can now start the VPN

If you find any problems with the wireless in any of these areas please contact the help desk as soon as possible as we are in constant contact with ITS about these improved services.
