In the vast majority of cases that involve printing, the help that is required is for Windows connection to a network printer.
This is probably one of the simplest things to setup in Windows.
The college has access to variety of servers that provide our connections to network printers.
For CEFNS staff and faculty we try to exclusively use a server named SERVICES.
For students there is a single server: ACADPRINTSRV1.
Anyone who is logged on the a Windows computer that is a part of the NAU network can connect to these servers.
It is a simply a matter of typing the path to the server in either the “run” utility on the Start Menu (
+R key combination) or into the address bar in “My Computer” and pressing enter.
You just need to type one of these two: \\SERVICES or \\ACADPRINTSRV1

Either method will open a “My Computer” window with the right-hand pane showing the “printer shares”.
In most cases we use the following naming convention: type of printer; building, room. So the dell3100-21-227 would be the Dell 3100 printer in building 21, room 227. If no middle number exists the that printer is in Engineering building 69.
All that a user needs to do is double-click the appropriate printer and that is it. The printer is set up on their computer and will remain so until it is deleted from the local printer’s folder.
In some case on SERVICES there are security restrictions for access to some printers.
The student print server is exclusively for printing in the computer labs.
If you use a Konica-Minolta copier where "Account Track" has been enabled follow the instructions below to set it correctly:
In your printers folder (found on the Start Menu) right-click the newly added printer and choose: “Printing Preferences”.
Down near the bottom or middle right of the setup tab on the dialog (depending upon the exact printer), click “User Authentication/Account Track”:
Then in the next dialog check "Account Track" and put you code number ing the Password text box:
You only have to do this once unless the code changes.
For some of the Konica-Minolta copiers they are set to prompt for a code for every print job - please check with your department administrator.
Mac Printing
To setup a network printer on a Mac open System Preferances and select Print & Fax.

In the Print & Fax options select the add printer icon. This will open a new window with options to add a printer. You will want to select the Advanced icon. If you do not have this icon do the following: right-click in the toolbar and select Customize Toolbar, you can then drag the Advanced icon to the toolbar. Once in the Advanced section of the Add Printer Utility, you would want to select Windows as the Type, and put in the following address in the URL option: smb://(Account Domain, this is either NAU or NAU-STUDENTS)/services.cefns.nau.edu/PRINTER NAME. The printer name will be the printer share name. Unfortunetly you cannot browse for the printer name, and will need to know this in advance. If you are unsure of the printer share name contact the CEFNS IT help desk @ x8084 and we can tell you.

After you have put in the server information you can give the printer a name, this will be the name that shows in you print dialogue, so give it something memorable such as the share name. If you are setting up a connection to a HP printer the driver should be already installed. If it is a Dell or Konica-Minolta printer you will need to install the driver. The standard Konica-Minolta drivers are available on smb://cefnsshares.cefns.nau.edu/software/public/Mac_Print_Drivers. Once the driver is installed you can search for it by selecting Select Print Software from the Choose a Driver of Printer Model listing. In the dialogue start typing the model of printer.

The first time you print you will be promted for your NAU/NAU-Students userid and password. If you select the add to Keychain option you will not be prompted again. To setup Account Track and/or duplexing you will need to print something. In the settings you can go to Finsihing and select duplex or other options. With Konica-Minolta printers you might need to set you account track userid and password. This is under Security.

To keep these settings as default for the printer Select the Presets menu and choose Save As

NON Windows Printing
If you do not use a Windows computer, you can still make connections to SERVICES. The simplest way would be to add a smb printer.
Specifying services.cefns.nau.edu as the server. The user would then see the shares to connect to. The main problem here is that the appropriate driver would need to be on the users computer - and there a known problems with "Account Track" for the Konica-Minolta's and non-Windows clients - sorry!
If a printer you need is not on the list please contact our help desk 3-8084 or cefnsithelp@nau.edu to check or get one created.
