There are a number of computer labs within CEFNS . These are primarily related to the departments or areas where they are located. Some are more generally available and some even ”open” 24/7
There is a shared open access PC lab in building 19 on North Campus. This has the basic Office package some standard mathematical and statistical application, plus the full suite of Chemistry applications and a number of installations of ADAM a graphical anatomy package.
Chemistry has two computer labs that are available for both class and study use. These are situated in the new Science Lab Facility – building 17 on the second floor. Rooms 208 and 221 have 18 PC each.
Secondly there a several classrooms with dedicated computers linked to data acquisition devices.
Engineering has over a dozen computer labs. With the exception of one, these are all in Engineering building 69 on south campus. These are listed below:
Internet Café room 100a a 24/7 facility (needs an OmniLock code from Engineering for ”out of hours use”). This facility has 5 workstations for Mechanical Engineering and CAD application use. There are also 5 DTU’s (dumb terminals) that can provide either a Browser/Linux/UNIX/Windows shell. These can provide a range of applications for a variety of uses.
Computer Science/Electrical Engineering lab room 106. 30 DTU’s (dumb terminals) that can provide either a Browser/Linux/UNIX/Windows shell. These can provide a range of applications for a variety of uses. These are mainly used for ”programming purposes”.
Mechanical Engineering/General PC lab room 112. 17 machines with a full set of Mechanical Engineering and CAD applications.
Civil & Environmental Engineering lab room 113 – 5 PC’s with Mechanical Engineering, CAD and Transportation orientated applications.
Transportation lab room 114 – 10 PC’s with Mechanical Engineering, CAD and Transportation orientated applications.
D4P lab room 119 – 30 laptops with some ”light-weight” applications. A mix of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering apps.
Electrical Engineering labs Three labs: 234 – 8 machines; 235 – 18 machines and 237 – 10 machines that are dedicated to Electrical Engineering applications. These are in most cases connected to data acquisition hardware.
Several Research labs for closed use are on the second floor with a variety of roles.
Construction Management lab room 315 has 20 DTU’s that can provide either a Browser/Linux/UNIX/Windows shell. These can provide a range of applications for a variety of uses. These are mainly used for Mechanical Engineering course and classes.
General PC lab room 317 this is the most heavily used teaching classroom in Engineering. 30 machines with the full suite of applications used in the building.
Finally there is a computer lab facility in the machine shop complex within Emerald City building 98C. This is a small group of 5 machines specifically for the Mechanical Engineering workshop.
Geology Computer lab – in building 12, room 104 has 22 PC’s and 2 Macs with a range of dedicated geology software
Mathematics and Statistics has two labs available for students in the department. These are the main teaching lab, room 222 with 36 PC’s and a smaller room, 225 with 21 machines. All have the same range of software with a Mathematical or Statistical orientation.
