Inkless Printer Capstone Project

Project Description

The Inkless Printer Spring 2024 Capstone Group has started on a project tasked by the teams sponsor, Mary-Victoria Crockett, to develop a proof of concept and design for an inkless printer utilizing copper tips instead of traditional ink cartridges. This project comes from the urgent need for sustainable printing solutions, considering the environmental impact of conventional printers such as ink cartridges and harmful coatings in thermal paper.

The project's objective is to address sustainability concerns by eliminating harmful ink cartridges. The team's approach involves utilizing a heated copper wire to create print patterns/words on traditional paper, offering fast printing responses and clear details. While current inkless printers use thermal technology, which leads to fading prints over time, the design aims to preserve print quality on conventional paper. Without having to use treated paper.
