Conventional Systems

Conventional systems use no electricity or mechanical devices.  Besides periodic pumping of accumulated solids, conventional systems operate by natural processes.  Gravity provides all the power needed for the water and wastes to flow through the system.  Treatment of the wastewater is accomplished by natural physical, chemical and biological processes in the treatment unit and soil absorption system.

If adequate site and soil conditions are available, conventional systems can provide adequate treatment and disposal of sewage for many years when properly constructed and maintained.
