GCS 350 - Managing Grand Canyon National Park
A week long concentrated coarse of study at Grand Canyon National Park and several days on the Colorado river. The central propose of these sessions are to convey an understanding of the intricacies of managing a large national park and to explore the role of GCNP in the transition from the 'old West' to the 'new West'. More specifically, students will study the mission of the National Park Service, confront management issues involved with dealing with nearly five million visitors a year while monitoring and managing natural and cultural resources of the Canyon region; explore connections between GCNP and near by communities; study the relationships (historical and contemporary) of indigenous cultural groups to the Grand Canyon and GCNP; and become familiar with the Grand Canyon Village as a living community. :: 3 Credits
