ASSISTANT PROFESSOR of MATHEMATICS EDUCATION

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics invites applications for the 2009-2010 academic year for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education.

Responsibilities include teaching mathematics and mathematics education courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels; research in mathematics education; supervision of student teachers; working with mathematics educators in local schools; and service. The salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Successful candidates must have:

  • a doctorate degree in mathematics education completed by the contract starting date, or a doctorate degree in mathematics with substantial training or experience in mathematics education
  • experience in teaching mathematics at any level or research activity of any kind in mathematics education

Preference will be given to candidates with

  • substantial evidence of high quality teaching
  • potential for a productive research program
  • potential to contribute to the department's mathematics education program at the undergrauate and graduate levels
  • a demonstrated interest in mathematics education at the secondary level
  • experience in teaching at the 7-12 grade levels
  • experience in teaching at the university level
  • experience in teaching and developing on-line courses
  • experience in teaching and developing pedagogical courses for combined mathematics and science preservice teachers
  • a commitment to support the multicultural needs of Northern Arizona University and the surrounding area.
