Master of Engineering: Mechanical Engineering

The Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) with an emphasis in Mechanical Engineering prepares you for professional practice with a broad, applied education across two specializations in mechanical engineering: thermal-fluid sciences and solid mechanics.

For this 30-unit plan, you take:

  • 3 units in applied mathematics, in a relevant topic such as linear algebra, partial differential equations, or applied mathematics modeling

  • 3 units in engineering management (Course may be offered through such colleges as engineering, business, or management.)

  • 3 units in engineering computational techniques, in a course such as ME 510 or MAT 563

  • 15 units in mechanical engineering electives selected with your advisory committee's approval.  Up to 6 units outside of mechanical engineering in a related engineering or interdisciplinary field are allowed here.

  • 6 units of additional courses from mechanical engineering or related areas, selected with your advisory committee's approval.  This can include up to 6 units in an optional practice-oriented project, developed and conducted under your advisory committee's guidance and focused on a problem of interest to the practicing engineering community.

If you do not have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, then you will be required to complete a prerequisite courses to achieve equivalency.

Please note that, if you have a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (BSET), it will be treated as a non-engineering degree, and you will have to take pre–admission coursework that will prepare you for the graduate program in mechanical engineering.
