There is no minor required—instead you choose one of seven emphasis areas: Biology; Chemistry; Applied Geology; Environmental Administration and Policy; Environmental Communication; or Environmental Management. If you are more interested in environmental issues from the broadest perspectives, we offer both an Interdisciplinary Minor in Environmental Studies and an extended B.S. or B.A. in Environmental Studies. To complete the environmental studies degree, in addition to your major core and liberal studies requirements, you choose a focus from one of three areas: Sustainability, Community, and Biological Diversity; The Southwest Environment; or Globalization and Environmental Change. The M.S. in Environmental Sciences and Policy offers the opportunity to understand, integrate, and apply scientific knowledge from diverse fields, including ecology, chemistry, geomorphology, and hydrology. The program provides training in critical thinking and communication skills delivered through a shared, interdisciplinary program core that is complemented by advanced technical studies tailored to meet your unique needs and interests.
The M.S. in Climate Science and Solutions offers an interdisciplinary approach to address the societally relevant issues related to global climate change. The Quaternary Science Program offers a Master's of Science degree in multidisciplinary Quaternary Sciences. Students receive specialized interdisciplinary research and academic training in Earth’s present environmental conditions and biota in the context of the geologically recent past.
