Sustainable Cities Research Program

The foundation of human life is under increasing threat from ecological and social stresses and failures, and the gap between where we are and where we want to be is getting larger. Cities are man’s largest creations, so it is not surprising to find that they make the greatest contribution to worsening ecological conditions.  City sustainability programs are working to slow this trend, but the results are mixed and most of these programs may never achieve a sustainable state.  This research seeks to identify those factors critical to the success of existing programs in order to enable improvements in their effectiveness.
