Have a look at our fabulous Spring 2009 Department Newsletter! Computer Science and Applied Computer Science Programs
Computer Science Graduates are in Demand
Computer science graduates are highly prized by employers. In the age of technology, computers have a central role in virtually every aspect of science, technology and business. Our programs offer an excellent background for moving into the professional world or for continuing your education in graduate school. Some of our students take positions immediately upon graduation with companies such as Intel, Motorola, Honeywell, Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, AG Communications, IBM, and Raytheon, as well as many smaller firms. Others continue on to advanced studies at schools such as Stanford, MIT, USC, the University of Colorado, and the University of Oregon.
New Merged Department
As of July 1, 2009, the departments of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering merged and will be renamed EE&CS. David Scott will be the new chair and Dieter Otte will be the assistant chair of the new department. Programs and course prefixes are not affected, but we hope the new structure will provide opportunities for increased collaboration and service to students and employers.
Outstanding Faculty who Care
The Computer Science faculty has varying professional specialties, but all are united by a strong commitment to teaching. Among the special interests of the faculty are data mining (the Center for Data Insight is one of the research centers of the Arizona university system), parallel algorithms, distributed systems, artificial life, fuzzy logic, neural networks, evolutionary programming, user interfaces, virtual collaborative environments, programming languages, modeling reactive systems, and software engineering.
Faculty Job Openings
We currently have no faculty openings. We are currently seeking permission to hire a person for the Master of Science in Engineering interdisciplinary program, so watch this space for that announcement.
