Contractor's Night Presenter Resources

Thank you for considering a recruiting and teaching presentation for the NAU construction management students. These presentations are a valuable part of our educational program.

In addition to providing internship and career opportunities, company representatives are encouraged to present a professional topic. A list of possible topics is included for your consideration. The list is in the approximate order that the topic is handled in the course.

This page has been created to provide a source for up-to-date information for contractors who are presenting to potential employees and interns.

In-class presentation Guidelines

Room 101 is equipped with computer and projection devices. The current computer operating system is Microsoft Windows XP. This computer will read most documents and PowerPoint presentations.

Note that there has been difficulty in getting sound to work through the university system, so a laptop with auxiliary speakers may be necessary.

Flash drives appear to be the best transferable media for presentations as the laptop connection at the podium does not always work with the wide variety of laptops.

All rooms have internet access

Bldg has wi-fi (we can’t promise the wi-fi due to your laptop configurations)

Possible delivery methods, (these can be combined)

Ordered Suggested List of Guest Speaker Topics

for CM 481

The evening class begins at 7:00 PM in the same room. Contractor lectures can begin with a 5 minute review of the contractor recruiting information. This will allow students who did not attend the 6:00 PM recruiting presentation an opportunity to hear about the company and to sign up for an interview. The class ends at 9:30. Ideally, the contractor lectures will last 30 to 40 minutes including questions.

Topic List Coming Soon for Fall 2009...

Food sources

The contractor is encouraged to provide food for 40 to 50 people during the presentation. Sign-ups for interviews, to be held the following day, are conducted at this time. Contractors are asked to schedule breakfasts the following morning with specific candidates rather than dinner after this session, if they wish to do so. Some contractors have invited seniors to dinner after the presentations, causing the students to miss the Tuesday night class.

By contract with our food vendor, NAU faculty and students organizations are not allowed to bring any food from off campus for group consumption, we must use the contracted catering service Their pizzas are inexpensive  and they have a full light menu but we have a week in advance plan issue and a pick up issue.  However it is our belief that this is a matter for you to decide as you are an outside agency.
